The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is a great resource about federal privacy laws, public policies affecting Canadians' privacy and research papers on numerous privacy related issues.

Before pointing fingers to the government or anywhere else, better start by looking what we openly share ourselves.

Google yourself to find old social media or communication accounts(Myspace, ICQ..). Outdated platforms may still contain information and pictures that some may want to delete. It's easy to blame Facebook, Twitter or others for ruining your life, but it's up to individuals to be wise on what to share and post.

When people will clean their yards and close their curtains, things get much more private.

Just to add to what you said, lets not forget old (now defunct) websites.  Things like the Way Back Machine may archive websites that have been closed down

The saying, "once on the internet always on the internet" has some truth to it

A rambling that will last forever LOL

Also, If extra storage space or back up is needed, buy an external hard drive. Much more secure and reliable than using free email or cloud storage. And for those who still think the cloud is "secure", keep in mind that most leaked private content came from those database.

And again, unless you plan to share something with the world, don't put it online.
