Well for those that share a CPU with their significant other and want to be a little more discreet when searching and chatting give Google Chrome a try; after downloading you need to select under tools "new incognito window", this will ensure no history, cookies or trace of sites visited are placed on your CPU... happy viewing.

Or you could install Firefox (or a second profile, if you already have it installed) and set it to "Clear Private Data" on close.

Opera is another good option.

I use Chrome for this exact reason - and the fact that it's really fast. If I recall, the problem with Firefox is that it clears all your history so it's obvious that you're hiding something!

Chrome rocks in terms of speed and simplicity. Its been my primary browser since Google released it. Every now and again you'll hit a site that doesn't work properly but that also happens with various versions of IE.

Multiple profiles are a good idea if one cannot surf from a secure private machine. If sharing a computer with anyone, always a good idea to verify the settings on the browser just so you don't walk away thinking you're safe when in fact you may not be. It it so easy to alter settings, look for stuff in the cache and history by date and time.

Safe surfing leads to safe hobbying. Surfs up!

Another idea is to run your apps from a thumbdrive.

It won't hurt the try... but the bigger question is why won't your cam work to begin with?

Hi Emma, when your in chat right click on any WHITE area and a menu should appear with a "Settings" option. Click this setting option and you should see a webcam icon. See if your webcam is in the drop down menu and select it. You could have another capture program or device on the computer that is being used as the default.
