what would you think about a safe environment as in a brothel

Recommended Posts

Having a place of there own with 5 or 6 girls working together to have a safe place for them to work? And as well the guys could feel safe to in a good neighbor hood very discrete! It might be a little more expensive but would it be worth it?

A bawdy house is anywhere that a prostitute "habitually" uses for work. This means a place where she's seen several clients. Most of the time, it refers to the lady's incall location, which may be her home or an apartment she uses for work. If she shares an apartment with other ladies, it's a bawdy house according to the law. In the case of hotel rooms, there must be a way for the police to prove that she has seen more than one or two "friends" in her room since even prostitutes are allowed to take vacations and rent hotel rooms for the same reasons anyone else might. Generally speaking, the hotel management will address the problem with a lady rather than call the police. Not only is this less likely to cause a commotion, but the hotel also has an interest in not being charged with living on the avails of prostitution in the form of being paid for the room she uses. If the lady or ladies rent an apartment, the landlord will be informed and will be required to evict them immediately or face charges of being on the avails.

When massage parlors are raided, bawdy house charges are often included on the rap sheet. The Asian micro-brothels can also be considered to be bawdy houses and when they, or any other place being used by human traffickers or people bringing in others under the temporary foreign worker programs, are raided, bawdy house charges are often part of the list.

It is an offense to be "found in" a bawdy house. It doesn't matter whether you're dressed, undressed, in the middle of intimate activities, answering the phone or doing laundry. If you're there, you're presumed to know what's going on. You may only be found in the place or you may be found in and receiving the avails if you're working for the sex workers there.

There have been cases where alleys and areas of public parks have been deemed to be bawdy houses because they were generally known to be places where sex was available for a fee, but this isn't common.

Bawdy houses and brothels are illegal in Canada.

But the laws pertaining to them may change if the Supreme Court of Canada upholds the Ontario Court of Appeal decision or, even better, endorses the Superior Court of Justice decision of Justice Himmel in October 2010.

If it becomes legal to operate a brothel in Canada, there's no way to be certain what those brothels will be like. In most major cities, there are sex workers who are very interested in running brothels and who have been engaged in discussions with city officials about zoning, by-laws, regulations and related matters.

Many people imagine brothels along the lines of the things portrayed in Old West movies or The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Others are simply interested in a number of women being able to share a house or an apartment for their work. Some people have proposed owning small apartment buildings in which sex workers would work in private suites. There are a lot of other possibilities. Most of us here would be pleased to be without the threat of prosecution while we continue to work much as we have for years.

Not everyone wants to work in a publicly-known brothel. Many of us are highly protective of our privacy and would not want to risk compromising it. Women who have worked as independents for a long time may not be interested in giving up any degree of control over their work, workplace and general environment. But quite a few ladies want the companionship, mutual support and enhanced safety that are likely to be part of working together.

Men who visit paid companions also seem to have a wide range of preferences. Some say that they would be happy to go to a publicly-known brothel. Others say that they prefer to keep their private life strictly private.

I think that everyone who values the safety factor that legal brothels may offer should recognize that this will probably come with a price. Security considerations are heightened anywhere people are engaging in intimate activity. Screening, including providing full identification, will surely be required of publicly-known brothels, at least initially.

Personally, even if legalized in Canada, I wouldn't ever consider it. I like privacy in all aspects of my life and couldn't imagine ever enjoying such an arrangement and if I am not enjoying myself how could I expect my gentleman callers to?

I have to agree with Meg. For me, encounters are about intimacy and companionship. People coming (no pun intended) and going would take away from the intimacy of an encounter, and thus take away the companionship too. It would reduce encounters to just a sexual encounter only, and I can't speak for anyone else, but I sure wouldn't feel relaxed and comfortable engaging in any intimate act in a brothel.

But that's just me

From my perspective I see little advantage to this type of scenario. I have yet to put myself in a situation where I did not feel safe. I only visit reputable ladies in upscale(ish) hotels and private locations in decent neighbourhoods. These tend to be extremely safe and discrete but if I get even the slightest inkling they are not then I'm gone.

While I realize it is not uncommon for ladies to share a workspace when I think of a brothel the first thing that pops in to my mind is a "pimp".

The concept of girls being able to conduct their business without being bothered by anyone is the right one. If a few of them want to get together and share a place that would be great. As long as it were girls and no pimps involved.

Unfortunately it is not legal in Canada at this time.

I don't know if I would ever consider this even IF it were legal. I know with my experience in this business, I'd be good at running one if it were ever legalized but then there is the whole pimp stigma and I don't like babysitting so...no thanks.

In theory, it may work for some and the thought of some big house on the outskirts of town sounds like fun but in reality and since it's NOT legal, there would too many hassles that would come along with this. Not to mention discretion issues and customers coming and going and worried about running into one another.

A brothel would probably change the overall attitude, experience and ambience of meeting an escort with other women around and other customers. Also, with a group of women it is almost inevitable that someone is going to clash with another person or the group as a whole.

I prefer to work on my own.
