Researchers at Japan's central bank in Sapporo recently counted the number of business establishments. Brothels are one of the few growth sectors.

 

In the 25-block Susukino entertainment district of Sapporo, between 1989 and 2008:

 

The number of all businesses declined from 4807 to 4463

The number of brothels increased from 63 to 264.
