The Art Appreciation Thread

Recommended Posts

Another never-ending thread, this one shamelessly purloined from Facebook. Post a pic of piece of art by the artist given by the previous poster. If you feel like it, tell us anything else about the work or the artist that you think might be interesting to the uneducated masses (that's the rest of us).

And then... most important... pick an artist for the next person! No rules about repeats, especially of artists, but if the same artist comes up again then try and find a different painting or sculpture to post this time. Hopefully we'll all become a little more cultured along the way.

Since there's no previous poster for me, I get to start with whoever I please... and so I think I'm going to begin with Raphael, and post his School of Athens - which is actually a fresco on the theme of philosophy. The title by which it's now known wasn't chosen by the artist. Hopefully it'll be somewhat obvious why I went for this one :)

Next person... Jackson Pollock.

Salvador Dali-The Great Masturbator

Not much that I can say about the artist or painting, except to say he must have had some "issues" about sex (judging by the painting's title)

I now know why I don't collect art LOL

Next up Al Agnew

natural artist, Al Agnew.

suiting for me to have this one to comment on, as I am a natural art fan!

I admire the way he can capture in each brush stroke the realism as if it is a picture taken from a camera!

next is my favorite natural artist, Canadian, Robert Bateman!

I look at this and I'm thinking there must be a largemouth bass hiding under those pads

Our next artist, Leroy Neiman, one I recall as a kid, seeing his artwork (amongst other pictures ;-) ) adorning Playboy magazines...yes really

I had never heard of Leroy Neiman, before today, but after going on Google and seeing his work, I am in awe of his work, there was so many paintings I wanted to choose from but I chose this one because it stood out the most to me

Its a painting of Marilyn Monroe my Idol so that is why I chose to go with this painting...All of his painting are brilliantly colored, so full of life, like myself :)

For a change how about Keith Woodcock

and for Tianna, this is the type of art that made me familiar with Leroy Neiman, and it graced the pages of Playboy. I didn't really know at the time he was a famous artist
