I think they need to update the terminology.....I mean really "Bawdy House" .....was the arrest warrant written in olde english too?

The lesson here gents is to remember what can happen if you patronize these sorts of places for sex. These are the places that get targeted, and eventually raided. Avoid them. The part about finding "used condoms" didn't sound so appealing either.

ha ha ... verily so. It would have been. Section 210 of the Criminal Code does call this offense "keeping a common bawdy-house".

Now here in Saint John, Blush, the only place for adult entertainment, has removed all the curtains from the lap dance area and has a guy patrolling up and down the hallway at all times.

As a resident of Moncton I for one am glad to see the crown devoting so many resources to such an important case. Recent drug murders this past late winter, arsons, a loose serial rapist, a recent bank robbery usually get the "less enlightened" members of the public upset and feeling unsafe and garner the headlines. But surely these are trivial compared to the obvious moral decay that this case represented. Who cares whether this guy is actually guilty, we need an example. Besides all those other cases I mentioned could probably all be traced back to this joint. I'm sure now that it is closed down we can look forward to many happy years of peace, and no crime. That is until the next "bawdy house" rears zombie like from the ground.

Now that I have read the background story, I finally understand why there are no massage parlours or regular incalls in New Brunswick.

Manship pled guilty in April 2007 of running a common bawdy house in Moncton (the Gentleman's Massage Club on St-George, as doc mentioned). He is the one mentioned in the last article who forfeited $500,000 in property (real estate and RV) that was seized by the RCMP.

(He also pled guilty in Halifax to living off the avails and received a six-month conditional sentence, Dec 2006. Different case, obviously. Manship apparently had also been convicted of prostitution-related offenses in the 1970s and 1980s in both Moncton and Halifax.)

While forfeiting $500,000 in assets to the crown may seem like a lot, it's probably just a drop in the bucket when you consider his business was in operation since approximately 1977. Most fines for escort agency owners that are busted and subsequently convicted are in the $4000 to $5000 range which amounts to a week's earnings, if that.

This is what happens when you live in a society that creates rules based on "morality" as apposed to the safety of citizens. We could free up a lot of resources and do a lot of good with the money that is spent trying to enforce an outdated religion based view of what is "right" or "wrong".
