Let's talk about sex work - 3 day event in St. John's

Recommended Posts

The Bedford case and changes made to Canadaâ??s prostitutions laws (formerly bill C-36) have sparked new discussions about sex work. Recent reports that several sex workers in St. John's have been raped have also pushed some to reconsider old notions. The Department of Gender Studies believes that it is important to encourage informed conversations about sex work. It is in this spirit, that we will host a three-day event, Sex Work: Soliciting Reflections (March 5th, 6th, and 7th 2015). This event will contribute to ongoing community dialogues through a series of activities with a "town-hall" feel. It will create a space where university students and faculty as well as members of the St. Johnâ??s community can gather to learn about the realities of sex work, challenge old assumptions, and participate in collective reflection.
