Escorts assaulted by man posing as cop: Police

Recommended Posts

Glad to see they finally nabbed this guy. I had also read they were looking for him. Hopefully they will put him behind bars for a long time!

This part burns me,

"arrested and charged before being released on a promise to appear in court at a later date"

Violent, impersonates a cop, and a promise gets him back on the street, JesusGodDamChrist.

"...two counts of sexual assault, two counts of impersonating a police officer, forcible confinement, choking, theft under $5,000 and robbery."

“These were very significant assaults,” said Ottawa Police Staff Sgt. John McGetrick. “It’s fair to say there was violence involved.”

Yeah - Why wouldn't the cops let him out? :-?

Ottawa cops are morons.

The Ottawa police have nothing to do with "letting him out", the court (ie: judge & crown) decide if a person is released to await trial or remanded into custody - based on a variety of considerations.

The police have done their job well in this case, and to insult the people who protect and serve our community is just ignorant & rude.

This was a scary/dangerous guy, who has now been publicly identified, charged and taken off the streets. (*without any media attacks of the victims character)

Yes, you are right, I misread and misspoke: the court decides... but after reading the article again (dated April 19), I do not believe he was let out - this time. "Saleh was scheduled to make an appearance in court Monday." ...being April 20, where he was arrested Friday, April 17 ("When police finally arrested Saleh this past Friday"). Looks like he may have been in the clink all weekend.

They "let him out" the first time thou, and well, we now see how that turned out. ...but I digress.

The police have done their job well in this case, and to insult the people who protect and serve our community is just ignorant & rude.

Whether the police did the job well is left to be seen (with provincial stats showing OPP are regularly among the worse at solving crimes), as Saleh was 'finally' arrested just this past Friday, a year after the first assault was reported, and long after he missed his court date (yet he is reported to have been working nearby in Kanata).

I have dealt with the 'less than professional' Ottawa police who are well known to protect and serve - themselves. With their lies and cover-ups to profiling and discriminating against people. So ignorant I am not - and well, rude is subjective. That is not to say they did anything wrong here, but their overall track record speaks for itself.

IMHO - it's far worse for the cops to be ignorant and rude in not protecting and serving the community as best they can than me stating so here.

Well, 'finally' Taken Off the Streets, for now... but we will see what the courts have to say about Keeping Him Off the Streets.

********

"Saleh was arrested and charged before being released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. When his court date came Saleh failed to show up, McGetrick said, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. In the meantime, a second woman came forward with allegations she had been assaulted by Saleh late last year. When police finally arrested Saleh this past Friday, he was charged in relation to the second victim?s allegations."

************

1st report over a year ago.

2nd report late last year, months ago.

Arrested April 17th, 2010.

Cops had the guys name with him working in Kanata.

If this is the cops doing their job well, then call me a monkeys' uncle.

****************

Most (and more) importantly, I applaud the courage of the victims to speak-up and report this person, as I hope (in a perfect World) justice will be served (...but I won't hold my breathe) and the victims are finally allowed to heal.

Ok so this is the situation..

One of the ladies in this case works with us. And because of our situation I cant divuldge too much of the information as it is now before the court.

That said, the victim involved orginally did not want to come forward due to being in this industry. (we very much encouraged her to but it was her call to make.).. But what happend was this was brought to the attention of SGT Rohan who has been visiting local escorts to speak with them about safety tips and how to report attacks..ect.. During one of his visits this was told to him and he met with the victim and pursuaded her to come forward..

We had information on the individual which we shared with Rohan which allowed him to be tracked down and arrested. The police have the authority to release the individual under a promise to appear, and with strict conditions. He was monitored, obviously.. And when he failed to appear they were able to arrest him again and hold him in custody.

These meetings with escorts have been a good source of intelligence for the police, and is the sign of a new attitude on their part and a new way to do business with the escort industry.

We organized a meeting last Friday afternoon at a local pub downtown that involved a group of 7 escorts that work with us and Several Officers from the downtown and west end division. Lots of very helpful things were discussed and the ladies left with a feeling of a safer working environment and understanding with the local police. This was a huge turning point in this industry.

At the end of the day, its agreed the system is flawed.. No doubt.. But perhaps with the new attitude that is being displayed on behalf of the police, we can enjoy better lines of communication and be look upon as asset instead of a liability at catching these preditors.

I agree that the Ottawa po-pos are pretty lax in doing their job and seldom, if ever, do the victims get a safe feeling from the courts. My neighbour was being sexually assaulted by someone who was breaking into her house and the cops "couldn't do anything." I went and stayed at her place one night, ended up hurting the guy and I got charged... Justice in Canada: punish the victims and reward the criminals.
