Well have had this occur many times years ago I use to say how much is the cab or lets go I will come pay the cab for you if they say no I will I only would give what i thought was the cab fare or they refuse and leave

After being stung once or twice I try to be as careful as possible

I had this happen to me once, but i only gave her the $20 she said the cab costs, and then she never returned.

I wouldn't be suprised if this was the same girl i encountered out there.

I had this almost happen in Fredericton... but what i did was she requested that i give her money to pay for the cab and she would 'be right back'... I offered for her to stay in my room and i would go downstairs to pay him, but she insisted that i give her the money and not follow her (and she was very sketchy/boarderline snarky about it). I knew something was up at that point, so i went to the cab with her (but said i would only pay the cab if the money was in my hand, she agreed).. as i was speaking to the cab driver (whom I met days before and conversated with from the airport) as the cab driver and I started talking (and i had every intention of paying for the cab and was prepared to) she hopped back into the cab and rudely told him to drive away thinking i already paid him and she insisted that she was 'in a hurry' so he should leave now. I shrugged and bid them a good night as they drove away and that was that.... it didn't cost me anything, but i was left standing in the parking lot trying to make sense of what had just happened.

I concluded that she was probably so 'in a hurry' that she totally didn't realize i hadn't even paid the cab driver yet and the cab meter was still running. (it was at $12 when she first arrived) She rushed him out of there and totally messed up her own scam.
