Demise of the bordello?

What with the former Gentleman's Massage Parlour and Park Avenue closing down, and the debacle with the new strip club a couple years ago, I was wondering if anyone else thinks the time of the bawdy house is good and dead - at least in Halifax. Is the current legal and moral zeitgeist inconducive to the brothel? I'll admit to being fond of this type of establishment, when done properly of course, but with the rise of the internet and the independent escort, I'm thinking these buildings are gone the way of the dodo. Thoughts?

I posted a thread similar to this awhile back...I think the owner of Gentleman's Club finally had enough; he got out of the business and sold the building to a property development company. Hard to believe... after 30 years, I thought it would be around forever. Kudos to him for fighting back and staying in business for as long as he did.

Park Avenue was the crown jewel of the metro Halifax/Dartmouth escort scene. I've known Pat for many years and was a loyal patron of her establishment. If anyone knew how to run a business, it was her - professional in every way. She was the best, and the agency's closure was a loss to many. I've been made aware of the specific circumstances leading to her closing up shop, and they're not very pleasant. In fact, I feel bad for Pat - it wasn't her fault. I made a point of telling her how much her efforts meant, and thanked her from the bottom of my heart. I'm glad she's decided to stand her ground and fight.

Moreover, it's a shame that brothels are not allowed to operate legally in metro, all due to an antiquated law re: common bawdy houses. IMO, it should be stricken from the books. Brothels are functional in so many ways - they provide a safe location for ladies to work and provide an outlet for men who for whatever reason gravitate toward incalls, all at a reasonable price. Let's face it, the industry will never be eradicated, so why not decriminalize it??

Now, independents aside - where are we hobbyists ever going to find an agency that will replace Park Avenue in terms of overall professionalism, quality of ladies and quality of service?? If you know of any, please let me know. Hopefully some entrepreneur out there will take it upon themselves to start a quality agency that metro Halifax can be proud of, even if it's outcall only, to avoid legal ramifications.

One more thing, given the circumstances involved, I wonder if Pat / David would ever consider re-opening Park Avenue as "outcall only", or starting fresh with a new agency?

Although I'd seen Park Avenue advertised in the Yellow pages long ago, I had never been there. Where were they located?

And what happened to their SPs ? Are any of the ladies you liked so much still around? :-?

They were located in downtown Dartmouth. As for the girls that worked there, most have disappeared. I keep hoping that a few of them may someday decide to go the independent route and sign up here...they were hot!

Oddly enough, in all the years I was a client of Park Avenue, not once did I ever visit the establishment itself - I always opted for outcall. However, I wish now that I would have gone to see it for myself, just for the hell of it. I've heard stories from some of the girls that worked there about the ambience lol! Still, it would have been nice to meet Pat in person and put a face to the name.

i'm sure if you went there Drlove you would have wished you kept to the out calls....lol

I have to agree with Emma here. I have been to "establishments" around the world, and those with the "Lineup" have always been the most awkward experiences for me. New Zealand and Australia do it the best in some of their upper end establishments. You walk in and it is kind of like a bar lounge area, though most don't have a liquor license. You can sit down with a refreshment and any girl interested in you will come over and introduce herself and chat a bit. It is a great way to meet a girl who you will likely have a connection with, and I usually had a list of girls I would have to come back and take up the next time. ;) The bars of Thailand and South America are the most fun way to meet a likley girl but getting "Ficha Fawked" can be expensive.

Picking out a girl in a lineup just doesn't do it for me anymore, perhaps becasue I also need an intelectual connection as well. Afterall your primary sex organ is the brain.

I must admit my roots in the hobby started in the type of Incall described here and in a couple of Strip Bars that sort of doubled as meet and greet for the beds in the motel next door :) Man that was long ago....

I do like the convince of that type of incall but as all have said the "line up" could get a bit awkward but after a few visits I would have a fave and just make the appointment ahead of time, and avoid the "line up"

Reflecting on the holiday just past..... My "fantasy" NYrs Eve party:

Rent or book out a small Inn or Larger "cottage".... say 5 or 6 bedrooms, large dinning room, lounge/bar.....etc etc...

Invite 6 to 8 of the well known independant SP's

A meet and great when all arrive, socialize and and drinks, big dinner, more social time if needed LOL nad ring the new year in with a Bang or two or three LOL

I'd agree that Park Avenue was not the classiest building. The lineup is awkward, and I also would prefer to phone ahead and see who was available, and make an appointment.

I can see that the lineup may have been unavoidable from the establishment's proprietor perspective. A "menu" or on-line photo/description may be difficult to maintain what with the high rate of employee turnover.

Ultimately, it was the wonderful experiences with wonderful ladies that makes me look on these places somewhat nostalgically (though I admit the hot tubs were particularly nice on a cold fall/winter's night). I have my doubts that we'll another place like these any time soon in Halifax. We probably don't have the client base for a high-end place, and the laws and NIMBY attitude would make it difficult for a prospective establishment-owner to set up shop.

We do, however, have an increasing number of wonder SPs who are using the internet in amazing ways to get the word out.

Sorry to here Park Avenue is officially gone. I relaxed there on a few occasions over the last 20 years. However I am a bit surprised as I thought it had gone 2 years ago. I was in Halifax Sept/Oct timeframe of 2007 and 2008, Phoned Park Avenue and the phone was not answered.

It may have been that all the lines were busy at the time, which sometimes happened. Park Avenue was in full operation during September/ October 2007, but officially closed mid May 2008.

What makes it a bitter pill to swallow is the fact that generally speaking, agencies such as Park Avenue were allowed to operate with relative impunity unless a formal complaint was lodged, which is what happened in this particular instance. LE basically turned a blind eye for the past 19 years since they were operating under the radar - out of sight. out of mind - or no complaints = no problems as police would rather employ their limited resources elsewhere. However, when someone goes to the RCMP and starts talking, they have no choice but to investigate. I suppose the agency could have continued to operate, like GMC did after numerous busts, but I think it was just the final nail in the coffin, so to speak. Pat had been entertaining the idea of closing down even before all this transpired. It was just time, unfortunately.

I seem to recall there was also a GMC incall over top of Excitement video on Quinpool Road at one point.

I remember when i first started in the biz and Pat or someone called me for an interveiw....they wanted me to work for them but no way would i. I didn't like the place nor did i like that the ladies were paraded around like cattle. If you going to do something do it with taste. i'm sure the ladies working there didn't like it much either...

Yes "ladies were paraded around like cattle" however 2 reasons i stopped seeing escorts.

#1 outservice you don't know what you are getting, some bad attitudes, bad descriptions and you still have to pay transportation for someone you don't want I actual went to finesse twice and picked no one to prove a point. Bad descriptions are bad for the client as well as the girl.

#2 inservice is less hastle. no renting rooms or waiting for someone to leave. lol

I am back in the saddle agian. i will try 2 see at least 2 girls a week and write about it.

The ladies were paraded around like cattle made good money if they at least looked pleasant.

I asked some of the ladies about that when I saw them. They told me that they never had any problems with intoxicated clients coming in since they were checked at the door. I'm assuming the driver also doubled as a bouncer/security on site.I've only ever had outcalls, so I can only speak for myself; I live in an upscale area of downtown Halifax, and always make a sincere effort to ensure the lady I'm seeing feels at home / comfortable. It's the least I can do.
