Gmail account TOS

Recommended Posts

I am a bit freaked out by a recent disabling of my account by Google, I was locked out this morning for about an hour with Google telling me that I likely violated their terms of service or their gmail program policy.

Somehow I managed, after numerous attempts to log-in, to validate my account with my cell number being texted a code, but for what they said about the disabling it was more likely about a TOS violation or other violation of their policy...

After reading the TOS and program policy a few times I am unable to see where I might have violated any TOS. I know others have had their google sites shut down for various reasons and I wonder, between my using of gmail for my work email and my website are there any TOS that I might be in violation of? I'm not interested in having my account disabled in future...

If anyone understands user agreements and/or knows more about Gmail and Google products (in the context of how I am using them) and could help me figure this out please help me!

Thanks much!

It seems to have already happened Bethany, your website has been frozen.

When clicking your link the following is displayed:

"Site Disabled

This site has been disabled for violations of our Terms of Service. If you feel this disabling was in error, please fill out our appeal form."

Shitty.

This is pure speculation on my part but I think it has to do with 'adult' content. Likely someone complained about it. You may have to move to another website provider.

I agree etas. In fact, that has happened to me on more than one occasion which is why now I use the escorts site host which is not ideal for me (liked my other host better) but at least I know there is not many chances that it will be disabled for its content.

So weird, did a search for it yesterday and it came up, I can access it now too, thank God! Yesterday it was completely frozen and lost all my email account info too! Gmail is back up though, and I can see my pages, though they are not published...

Looks like it might be time to move on to a more adult site... Unless my appeal goes through... Another provider I know had the same issue with her gmail account without a site, wonder if this is similar to what happened back in Feb '11... A crazy number of people got locked out of their gmails...

I think there were issues with gmail from time to time, and on a regular basis I get asked to set my account to a cel ph#, which I refuse to do. There is a very unobvious spot to click on to skip that, fwiw.

As for a website on google, that could well be the issue. I don't think that their TOS includes adult content, and all it would take was a few reports to get them alerted to it. You don't want your website down for any reason, and being subject to the whimsy of google might be the best reason to move onto an alternative.

Thanks Jazzitup for letting me know, I had an issue with my site designer program where I needed to reroute/point my domain (from a free 1page website I created initially that was lame) to the intended 5pg hosting I bought, CERB likely had the initial IP of that 1pg site and as I have closed it (God, I am getting confused just talking about the shenanigans I have been through) the link in my signature was likely pointing to the invalid site that CERB didn't know what to do with...

Have just updated my site link in my signature to the intended version and it is almost where I want it, check it out! Love GoDaddy, they were so helpful in fixing this obscure issue! I can't believe I didn't do this sooner, site creator with 5pgs, lame free 1pg site creator, a free email account plus free tech-support only 90$ for 3yrs of the domain and 1year of hosting!

After the storm... Yay!

FWIW, I think GoDaddy have some pretty good deals on at the moment - they've pissed off the entire Internet by supporting SOPA and lost a few big corporate clients as a result, so they're desperately trying to recover the ground they've lost...
