Favorite Screen Pairing

Recommended Posts

Christy's post about the movie "The Way you Were" got me thinking about famous Hollywood couples/pairings. Who were your favorites. My all time favorite screen couple:

Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall ... "you do know how to whistle, don't you"

Meg Ryan andTom Hanks in "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail".

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman" and "Runaway Bride".

The chemistry was just natural with these on screen pairs.

I have to go with the pairing of two of my favourite actors, Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the last crusade. I'm a huge indy fan and just love that pairing.

A close second would be Al Pacino and Robert Deniro in heat. They're really only in one scene together but it is an awesome movie.

Nice ... I was thinking romantic pairings, but buddy movies, and of course antagonists are also great.

Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 hours.

Rock Hudson and Doris Day

Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face

Gotta go with:

Tom Hanks and Leo DiCaprio - Catch Me If You Can

Al Pacino and Johnny Depp - Donnie Brasco

Ray Liotta, DevNiro and Pesci - Goodfellas

Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen - The Magnificent Seven

I feel the same here as in Cristy's thread.

Paul Newman & Elizabeth Taylor.

They crackled on screen.

Others:

Bogey & Bacall.

That overbite, those eyebrows, the confidence even at 19 & you could tell he was already in love with her.

They were great together.

Burton & Taylor in Cleopatra. Still love them.

Most expensive affair ever.

Kathleen Turner & Michael Douglas in

Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile & War of the Roses.

I love 48HRS. too but Eddie Murphy & Dan Ackroyd in

Trading Places were hilarious.

And of course Jay & Silent Bob in anything. lol

Well, I'm going for Robert Redford too... but with Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid. A classic Old Married Couple if ever I saw one :)

My preference for Bogart was always Bacall (you can see the chemistry on screen in "To Have and Have Not" that lead to them getting married in real life). That's not to say that Casablanca isn't one of my favourite movies, in fact I enjoy watching this movie with people who haven't seen it before.

For Ingrid Bergman I thought pairing her with Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock's "Notorious" was another favourite screen pairing (and maybe I should add this film to the underrated films thread).

Grant defined smooth. And he & Grace Kelly were great together too.

Rock Hudson & Doris Day. So cute. Their movies are such fun.

Myrna Loy and William Powell of the Thin Man movies. All told they made 14 films together. That's gotta be some sort of record.

Bogey and Bacall are definitely the most famous romantic couple, imo. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, another all-time classic couple. "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" is my favorite. Tacy's final film, of course.

Another one I liked was the pairing of Marlon Brando and Eva Marie Saint in "On the Waterfront". The chemistry was there, obviously as they both won Oscars.
